Iron ore heiress Gina Rinehart has lost a last-minute attempt to have details of a family legal feud kept secret on the basis of fears for her safety.
Three of Ms Rinehart's children have initiated a lawsuit to have her removed as head of a multi-billion-dollar family trust.
Existing suppression orders that prevent the case being reported are in place until Friday when the matter goes to the High Court.
As a back-up plan, her legal team lodged an application in the Supreme Court today for another suppression order based on fears for her safety due to publicity surrounding the case.
The lawyers said they had been made aware of a threat to Ms Rinehart by an anonymous man in Dubai.
They said the threat was reported to them by Adrian Francis, a West Australian security consultant.
Justice Michael Ball, however, dismissed the application, saying the threat was not credible.
This Friday, Ms Rinehart's lawyers will ask the High Court for leave to challenge the ruling that revokes the existing suppression orders.
If she loses, details of the family feud may be able to be reported.
