UNHCR report shows an increase of 20 percent in asylum seekers - Radio Australia

A UNHCR report has found asylum seeker claims in industrialised countries rose by 20 per cent last year.

The report into asylum seeker trends shows that almost half of the asylum claims came from people in Asia, with Afghanistan topping the list of source countries.

Although the number of asylum seeker claims rose worldwide, Australia bucked the trend with its numbers falling by 9 per cent.
